The daughter of Frend ‘Spider’ and Marjorie ‘Dodgie’ Menefee Malcom, she was born on December 23, 1938 in Oakville. She married Ernest ‘Ernie’ Gerst on November 14, 1957 in Oakville.
Judy graduated from Oakville High School in 1956. She was a homemaker and a day care provider for the last 26 years. Her life was her family and her day care kids.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie; four sons, Michael & Kay Gerst of Wayland, Kirk & Judy Gerst of Wapello, Keith & Michelle Gerst of Wapello, and Ted & Krista Gerst of Peculiar, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marge Strawhacker of Mediapolis, Alice Glawe of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Marilee Simmons of Venice, Florida; two brothers, William Malcom of Mt. Pleasant and John Malcom of Wapello; and all the day care kids that passed through her doors.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Oakville Community Building. A memorial fund has been established.
Private burial will be at the Edwards Cemetery in Oakville following cremation.
