The daughter of James Edward ‘Ed’ and Mary (Russell) Maddux, she was born on December 2, 1911 near Wapello, Iowa. She married William Wayne ‘Bill’ Hamilton on June 15, 1940 in Wapello. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1980.
Flossie graduated from Wapello High School in 1931. She was a homemaker and helped families as a caregiver.
She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and UMW of Morning Sun, the Honey Creek Homemakers, Midway Circle, Sorosis Club, Morning Sun Lioness, Skip Bo Card Club, Kitchen Band, the Derexa Rebekah Lodge of Wapello, and was a Past District President and member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Morning Sun.
Flossie loved playing the piano, reading, visiting with family and friends, and traveling.
Her family includes three sons, James & Donna Hamilton of Brooklyn, Iowa, John & Roberta Hamilton of Burlington, and Arthur & Lori Hamilton of Morning Sun; two daughters, Mary Juliano of Pacific Palisades, California and Annice & John Thacker of Burlington; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a niece who was like a sister, Joanne Hartman of Washington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a son, Gary Lee; two brothers, Bill and Art Maddux; and an infant sister, Emma.
The funeral ceremony for Flossie Hamilton will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Family and friends will gather with a luncheon at the Morning Sun Community Center after the committal.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Centenary United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
