Gregory D. McDowell, 55, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 6:45PMMonday, November 12, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House in Burlington, IA.
Greg was born on August 8, 1957 in Quincy, IL the son of Charles William and Marjorie Lucille Martin McDowell.
Greg was a 1975 graduate of LaHarpeHigh School. He worked as a supervisor at Shipley Construction in Burlington. He enjoyed working, riding and training horses. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie McDowell of LaHarpe, IL, 1 son, Craig McDowell of Kahoka, MO, 1 sister Carolyn (Roger) Trout of LaHarpe, IL, 1 brother, Duane (Pat) McDowell of LaHarpe, IL, and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and 2 brothers, Ronald and Jerry McDowell.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30AMThursday, November 15, 2012 at the LaHarpeCemetery with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Friends may call after 3:00PM Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM. Mrs. Fern Lucille Schlarbaum Stout, 90, of Danville, died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Danville Care Center.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stout will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 16 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Rev. Doug Cue will officiate. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Friday, with the family greeting friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Danville Methodist Church and the Danville Library.
Lonnie D. Gillis, 52, of Fort Madison, died at 8:21 am Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Born August 1, 1960, in Mediapolis, IA, he was the son of George Wendell and Marquita Marcia Green Gillis.
Lonnie worked in the shipping department at Pinnacle Foods.
He was a 1978 graduate of Mediapolis High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was a member of the Moose, the Eagles, and Local #617 of Fort Madison where he was Union Steward for several years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, riding his Harley with his friends, shooting, and riding all terrain vehicles. He loved being with his family, the outdoors and his dog, Sophie.
Survivors include two sons, Lyle D. Gillis of Burlington, and Lionel E. Gillis of Pekin, IL; one daughter, Tiffany L. Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Clayton M. Norton, Riley W. Gillis, Cameron M. Mitchell, Anabella N. Gillis, and Jaron D. Garmoe; his father, George Gillis of West Point, IA, his mother, Marquita Palar of Burlington; two brothers, Chuck W. Gillis and Rick D. (Lynnette) Gillis, both of Burlington; three sisters, Catherine J. (Scott) Brown of Burlington, Lori A. (Terry) Petermen of Douglas, WY, Estella (Abel) Richie of Dayton, OH; several nieces and nephews; and his fiancé, Shayla S. White of Fort Madison.
He was preceded in death by two nephews, Tharon Charles Gillis and Anthony George Gallegos, his step-mother, Vickie Gillis, and one sister-in-law, Linda L. Gillis.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Gillis will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2012, at Thielen Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for his grandchildren’s education.

Dennis Dotson Kennedy, 61, of Burlington, died at 10:14 pm Monday, November 12, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous war with lung cancer.
Born December 18, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Cameron and Harriet Dotson Kennedy. On October 14, 1983, he married Melodee Cooper Gerdom at his maternal grandmother’s farm in Wapello, IA.
He was a 1969 graduate of Mediapolis High School. In 1971, he earned a technical degree from Indian HIlls Community College in Air Frame and Power Plant Mechanics. Dennis worked for Wal-Mart Transportation for 24 years. He was well known throughout the area for his work in restoring antique tractors. He was a member of Mediapolis United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Melodee; three daughters, Jennifer (Jimmie) Bechtel of Holton, KS, and Alisha (Justin) Smith and Denette (Pat) Walsh, both of Denver, CO; two sons, Jeffrey (Nicole) Gerdom of Burlington, and Dane Kennedy at home; three grandchildren, Jacob Hess, Hannah Bechtel, Madison Smith and one due any day; his mother, Harriet Kennedy of Yarmouth; two brothers, Mike Kennedy of Yarmouth, and Rob Kennedy of Russell, IA; two sisters, Dawn Talley and Lorie Andrews, both of Yarmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 16, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Kennedy will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Mediapolis United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Kodis officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall at the church following the burial.
Memorials have been established for Wounded Warriors and Great River Hospice.
