Abingdon PW Employee Pleads Guilty to Child Porn
An employee of the City of Abingdon, southeast of Monmouth, faces the loss of his job after pleading guilty last week to possession of Child Pornography.
Records filed in U-S Federal District Court in Peoria indicate that Thomas Marshall pleaded guilty last week to a single felony charge of Receipt of Child Pornography. Court documents filed at the beginning of November indicate that Marshall received a video on his computer believed to be child pornography on December 26th of 2010.
According to documents filed by Assistant U-S Attorney Greggory Walters, federal authorities seized on February 10th of last year, a laptop computer, two hard drives, a printer, and two manilla envelopes containing around 20 images of printed child pornography. In total, prosecutors say dozens of videos and hundreds of photos of child porn were viewed by Walters. The charges were filed November fifth, while the plea was made a week ago today.
Marshall’s scheduled for a detention hearing December 13th, and will be sentenced March 28th. In the meantime, he’s in the custody of federal marshals. Marshall works in Abingdon’s Public Works Department. The city council’s personnel committee will meet Thursday to determine his fate.
