Obituaries Monday December 10th

Agnes Schroeder, 95 of Burlington, Iowa, died at 1:05 p.m.Saturday December 8, 2012 in the Blair House Nursing & Rehab in Burlington. She was born October 20, 1917 in Stronghurst, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph Hall and Marie Agnes Morrow Staley. On April 4, 1942, she married Melvin Eugene Schroeder in Macomb, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1993.

Mrs. Schroeder was a 1935 graduate of StronghurstHigh School and later graduated from WesternIllinoisStateTeachers College in Macomb. She taught in Rozetta, Illinois and Burlington, Iowa and in several rural schools, including Stone, Burrell and Cork country schools. She had been a 4-H leader and was a former member of the Stronghurst Christian Church. She was a current member of the West Burlington Christian Church, its Women’s Fellowship, Prayer Circle, and was active in the “Praise Singers” for many years.. She was a member of the Burlington Women’s Club, Prime Time, and the Retired School Personnel.

Survivors include one daughter- Mary (John) Disselhorst of Burlington, two grandchildren, Dawn (Jason) Peters of Kinderhook, IL., Patrick (Jacki) Schroeder of Sherman, IL., and five great grandchildren-Michael and Marie Peters, Henry and Miles Schroeder and Hali Niles. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son- Charles Schroeder, one sister- Susie Alice Staley and one brother- Ralph Staley.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the West Burlington Christian Church. The funeral for Agnes Schroeder will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the West Burlington Christian Church with Pastor David Behlman officiating. Burial will follow in the StronghurstCemetery.
