Joyce Verlee Lett, age 83, of rural Wapello, died Tuesday evening, December 11, 2012, at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. The daughter of Raymond Kenneth and Mary Irene McCormick McDaniel, she was born on May 25, 1929 in Muscatine.
She was married to Donald Lett on August 4, 1978 in Wilton, Iowa. Joyce was a beautician in Muscatine for about 25 years.
She was a member of the Victory Christian Center in Columbus Junction. She had attended Bible School in Des Moines. Joyce enjoyed sewing, painting, and ceramics. She loved to travel.
Her survivors include her husband, Donald; five children, Robert Williamson of Louisiana, Monica Lett of New York, Randy & Peggy Lett of Michigan, Marika & Frank Buchman of Illinois, and Malisa & Tim Davies of Iowa; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Delores Blake, Jean Strause, and an infant Marilyn; and an infant brother, Kenneth.
The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at the Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Michael McAfee and Dr. Curtis Frier officiating.
A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Victory Christian Center.
Elizabeth Juanita Hyter, age 91, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday evening, December 10, 2012 at the Klein Center of the Great River Medical Center in Burlington. The daughter of C. Wayne and Lillian M. Westfall Wagg, she was born on May 2, 1921 in Port Louisa, near Wapello.
Juanita graduated from Wapello High School in 1940. She received a bookkeeping degree from a college in Ashland, Kentucky
She married Paul Salazer on March 2, 1946 in Circleville, Ohio. He died February 2, 1964. Juanita married Paul Hyter on December 7, 1976 in Burlington. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1982.
She served as the Clerk of District Court in Des Moines County in Burlington for several years. After retiring she worked as a church secretary for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Juanita was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burlington. She enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Her family includes three daughters, Paula Salazer of Griffin, Georgia, Adela Smith of Marietta, Georgia, and Rosine Salazer of London, Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a brother, Jim Wagg of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a brother, William Wagg; four sisters, Eloise Traman, Jean Tucker, Donna Hayes, and Phyllis Wagg; and two infant grandsons.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello followed by the burial of the cremated remains at the Harrison Cemetery, rural Wapello.
