Obituaries Wednesday December 19th
Barbara Victoria Granaman Hermann, age 84, of Mediapolis, formerly of Sperry and Mission, Texas, died Monday afternoon, December 17, 2012, at the Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. The daughter of James and Victoria Curry Doyle, she was born on July 28, 1928 in Oledbolt, Iowa. Barbara married Louis Granaman on August 7, 1949 in Burlington. He died April 16, 1988. She married William Hermann on July 10, 1993 in Sperry. He died in January of 2008.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and farm wife and had worked at Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 17 years. Barbara was a member of the Sperry United Methodist Church and had attended the United Presbyterian Church in Mission, Texas. She loved sewing, bowling, travelling, golfing, and living in Mission, Texas for several years. She moved back to Iowa in 2009.
Her family includes a daughter, Sheila & Sam Schnedler of Sperry; two grandsons, Alex Schnedler and Nathan & Erin Schnedler both of Sperry; three great grandchildren; and three sisters, Norma Hines of Donnellson, LaVonne Miller of Comfort, Texas, and Dorothy Meyer of Grand Saline, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Sperry United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Stone Cemetery, rural Sperry.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice and the Old Stone Cemetery.
The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis is providing the care and arrangements for Barbara Hermann.
Michael T. Malone, 58, of New London, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at his home in New London. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.
Linda Poffenbarger Svoboda, 52, of Burlington, died at 2:45 pm Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
