Mrs. Lucille Garrels, 82, of New London, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Survivors: Six nieces and five nephews.
Funeral Services: Prugh’s Chapel Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Ron Carleton will officiate.
Interment: Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery

Leo H. Helling, 80, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 2, 1932 in Fort Madison, IA to Lawrence & Angeline Rickleman Helling. He married Sandra Joy Werner on May 30, 1959 in Fort Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2008. He delivered milk with his brother, Albert, for the Tri-State Dairy and for the past 30 years was a custodian for the FortMadisonCommunitySchool District. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Church. He was always a family man, never complained and even in tough times, always had a smile.
Leo is survived by: 1-son: Randy (Susan) Helling of Rochester, MN; 1-grandson: Brett David Helling of Rochester, MN; 1-brother: Albert Helling & 2-sisters: Mary Menke & Dorothy Holtkamp. He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife & 1-grandson: Ryan Christopher Helling.
Per his wishes, his body has been cremated by King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral mass will be held immediately following at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church. Burial will be held in OaklandCemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established in Leo’s memory. William ‘Bill’ Howard Mangold, age72, of Wapello, died Saturday morning, December 22, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The son of Stanley F. and Mae Elizabeth McCartney Mangold, he was born on November 12, 1940 in Washington. He married Connie Sue Cupp on July 23, 1961 in Keota.
Bill went to Dutch Creek Country School near Dublin and attended West Chester High School. He worked as a farmhand in the West Chester and Keota area and then managed the Kent Feed Store in Keota. He later worked and retired from Monsanto in Muscatine.
He had served with the Iowa National Guard out of Washington. Bill attended the Calvary Church in Muscatine. He enjoyed and raised several exotic animals especially the Watusi Cows. He enjoyed and collected anything John Deere and Indian Artifacts.
His family includes his wife, Connie; four daughters, Julie & Mike Delzell of Wapello, Brenda & Rick Brown of Wapello, Sonya & Bruce McLaughlin of Nora Springs, and Rachel Mangold of Mediapolis; two sons, Scott & Paula Mangold of Mt. Union and Matt & Laura Mangold of Wapello; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard ‘Dick’ & Linda Mangold of Washington; a sister, Kay & Fred Stigers of West Chester; and his beloved pet, Abby. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great granddaughter, Morgean Patterson.
The funeral ceremony for Bill Mangold will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Pastor Dan Schoeff officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.
Ronald Eugene Hobby. 59 of rural Media, Illinois died at 7:50 p.m.Thursday December 20, 2012 at his home. He was born April 21, 1953 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Eugene and Elma Owsley Hobby. On February 26, 2000, he married Rhonda Williamson in London Mills, Illinois.
Ron was a general foreman at Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois for thirty two years, retiring in 2004. He then farmed near Raritan, IL, and also restored tractors and automobiles in his shop at home. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, his parents of rural Media, three daughters- Cami Hobby of Peoria, IL., Courtney Boyer of London Mills, IL., Rhonda Engle of Hermon, IL., five sons- Kent (Marta) Edmonson of Dunlap, IL., Colby Edmonson of Farmington, IL., Dustin (Thea) Hobby of Abingdon, IL., Arron Hobby of Hermon, IL., Josh Shultz of Farmington, IL, seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one sister – Coni Hobby of Macomb, IL., and one brother – Rick Hobby of Smithshire, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m.Thursday December 27, 2012 at Banks & Beals with Aaron Baker officiating.
