Obituaries Friday December 28th
Mrs. Lucile Sarah Jacoba, 98, of Yarmouth died Wednesday, Dec 26, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Westwood.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jacoba will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday Dec 31 at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial at Kossuth Cemetery, rural Mediapolis will follow. A memorial has been established for the Peace Lutheran Church. Elliott Chapel, New London, is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Irene Brauns, age 97, a longtime resident of Greeley, Colorado and formerly of Wapello, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, December 26, 2012, at the Gray Cara West Assisted Living Center in Evans, Colorado. The daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Effie Robinson Boyd, she was born on January 16, 1915 in Lone Tree, Iowa. She married William D. Brauns, Jr. on March 21, 1932 in Wapello. He died on March 2, 1992.
Dorothy had attended schools in Lone Tree and Riverside and Wapello High School. She was a homemaker for her family and had been a school bus driver in Wapello, was a waitress and hostess at the Geneva Country Club in Muscatine, had worked in the school lunch program in Colorado, and had done childcare in her home.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello. She enjoyed reading, gardening, raising chickens, feeding the squirrels and caring for her pets, and was an avid sports fan especially of the Denver Broncos.
Her family includes four daughters, Lila Mae Menke of Dubuque, Donna Jean & Wendell Wilson of Wapello, Norma Lee ‘Teddy’ & Jack Reeman of Pierce, Colorado, and Beverly Ann & Wayne Lincoln of Durant; a son, William Daniel & Jean Brauns, III of Wapello; a special granddaughter Jo & Brad Gies and sons, Mike Schott, Sam Schott, and Jake Schott that she cared for very much; 12 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dochie Aubrecht and Geneva Sheckler; and three brothers, Ira, Johnny, and Robert Boyd.
The funeral service for Dorothy Brauns will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Dr. Chris Brauns officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery followed by a lunch gathering for family and friends at the Grandview Community Bible Church Fellowship Hall.
The family will meet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Cemetery.
