Doris E. West, age 88 of Stronghurst, Illinois, formerly of Biggsville, Illinois, died at 12:05 a.m.Friday December 28, 2012 in the OakLaneNursing & RehabCenter in Stronghurst. She was born March 15, 1924 in Lomax, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Georgia Marsden Bowlyow. On November 25, 1945, she married Raymond West in Burlington, Iowa.
Doris lived most of her life in the Biggsville area, moving to Stronghurst in October of this year. She had worked at the Biggsville and Stronghurst A.S.C. offices, and later was employed for many years as Social Services Director at the former Lamoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville. After her retirement she continued volunteering at the nursing home, MonmouthHospital, and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab. She was an active member of the Stronghurst Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former Cub Scout leader and loved reading, bowling, playing cards, and watching St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball games with her sister.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter- Judy Gravgaard of Biggsville, one son- Michael (Peggy) West of Biggsville, six grandchildren- Brian Gravgaard, Tom Gravgaard, Michael (Heather) Gravgaard, Stacey (Brandon) Merry, Brenda (Jeff) Tee, and Jeff West, six great grandchildren – Cody, Lacie, David, Rebecca, Taydyn, and Braden, one sister – Mary Thurman of Carman, IL., one sister in law – Virginia (Dean) Shuster of West Burlington, IA., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers- Earl and Gail Bowlyow, one granddaughter- Amy West, and one great granddaughter – Kaitlyn Gravgaard.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.Tuesday January 1, 2013, with the family meeting friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral for Mrs. West will be at 10:00 a.m.Wednesday January 2, 2013 in the Stronghurst Christian Church with Rev. Steve Minkler officiating. Burial will follow in the BiggsvilleCemetery. Jack L. Wheeler, 83, of Burlington, died at 11:50 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012, at his home.
Born November 1, 1929, in Coatesville, MO, he was the son of Floyd E. and Velma Edith Wright Wheeler. On February 23, 1964, he married Alverta “Bert” Schoene in Burlington.
Jack had owned and operated Main Street DX, and then worked at General Electric, Skerik Auto Parts, and was a salesman at Niehaus Motors before retiring. He then became owner and operator of Doris’ Tavern.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving two tours of duty.
He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150, and VFW Post 10102. He was a St. Louis Cardinal and Minnesota Vikings fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Bert; two sons, Larry Wheeler of West Burlington and Jay Wheeler of Utica, IL; three daughters, Tammy Wheeler of West Burlington, Becky Wheeler of Burlington, and Ginger Roth of Wever; six grandchildren, Jesse Smith, Jillian Smith, Victoria Wheeler, Jayson Wheeler, Cole Wheeler, and David Wheeler; four great-grandchildren, Troy and Alyssa Mullins, Laila Smith, and Randy Wagler; two brothers, Ronnie Wheeler of Burlington, and Huey Wheeler of Washington; five sisters, Wanda Houston of Burlington, Portvas “Joy” (Leo) Laue of Danville, Sue Ives of Burlington, Donna Krieger of Burlington, and Laura (Charlie) Marshall of Stronghurst, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charles Wheeler, Gene Wheeler, Darwin Wheeler, Myron “Speck” Wheeler, and three sisters, Marilyn Wheeler, Gloria Wheeler, and Laviece Jackson.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Wheeler will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2012, at Thielen Funeral Home. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Doris’ Tavern following the service. After the funeral service, cremation will be entrusted to Thielen Crematory. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Rosella Judith Noteboom, Age: 89 resident of: Burlington, Iowa

Survivors: Survivors include two daughters: Karen Hacking and Carol Kullbom, both of Burlington; one son, Kevin Noteboom of Vermillion, South Dakota; one grandson, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral Services: No formal services are planned.
Interment: Private burial with honors will be at a later date at Fort Snelling in St. Paul.

Funeral Services: The Funeral Mass for Clella C. Eastin will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, Iowa. Celebrant will be Fr. David Steinle. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.
Interment: Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Other arrangements: The Rosary will be recited in Prugh’s Chapel on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 4:00 pm; the family will then receive friends until 6:00 p.m.
