HOLY TRINITY HIGH SCHOOL’S MIKAELA FOECKE HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAX-PREPS ALL-AMERICA JUNIOR VOLLEYBALL PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR. 

FOECKE…WHO HAD 760 “KILLS,” TO LEAD THE CRUSADERS TO A 47 AND 5 RECORD AND A SECOND PLACE FINISH IN THE CLASS “A” STATE TOURNAMENT…HAS COMMITTED VERBALLY TO PLAY AT NEBRASKA AFTER HER SENIOR YEAR.

ILLINI WEST WON THE BEARDSTOWN LADY TIGER CLASSIC, BY BEATING SOUTH FULTON 44 TO 28.   WEST HANCOCK’S GIRLS FINISHED FOURTH, LOSTING TO ABINGDON 55 TO 53.  

 

IN COLLEGE WRESTLING…..  

THE IOWA HAWKEYES HAD THREE CHAMPIONS…14 OF ITS 16 WRESTLERS PLACED…AND THEY FINISHED WITH 187 ½ POINTS, BEATING SECOND PLACE EDINBORO BY 85 POINTS, AT THE MIDLANDS CHAMPIONSHIP IN EVANSTON, ILLINOIS.   MICHIGAN WAS THIRD, ILLINOIS FOURTH AND NORTHERN IOWA CAME IN FIFTH. Continue Reading

UPDATED: Burlington Man Abuses Wife with Gun

A Burlington man was arrested and released today after allegedly hitting his wife in the eye with a gun Sunday night. According to authorities, the victim was sent to Great River Medical Center’s ER with an injury to her left eye. It was swollen, discolored, and cut. She also had bruises on her arm. The victim told authorities her husband, 34-year-old Jessy Hulett, threw her onto the bed, pulled out a gun, threatened her, and then hit her in the eye with the weapon. Continue Reading

Garrett Brockway Featured in Rose Parade

It’s been a challenging, but rewarding year for one Burlington family. Tiffini and Bruce Brockway lost their 10-year-old son Garrett in a tree accident earlier this year, and have been raising awareness of organ donation ever since. Because of their efforts and the lives Garrett saved through his donations, his photo will be one of 81 featured on the Donate Life Float in the Rose Parade in Pasadena California New Years Day. The theme of the float this year is “Light Up the World with Organ Donation”, which makes Garrett’s Dad, Bruce Brockway, very happy… “For Tiffini and I, that’s a very appropriate theme. THE QUINCY HERALD-WHIG SAYS 53-YEAR OLD STATE’S ATTORNEY JIM DROZDZ WAS DRIVING A TRUCK FOR DOT FOODS IN DADE COUNTY, GEORGIA OVER THE WEEKEND, WHEN HE LOST CONTROL ON AN I-24 ENTRANCE RAMP…LEFT THE ROADWAY…AND STRUCK A CULVERT. FIRE GUTTED THE GARAGE AT 47-52 SUMMER STREET ROAD IN BURLINGTON AROUND 8 O’CLOCK YESTERDAY(SAT) MORNING.  

NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING AND ITS CONTENTS…OWNED BY KATHLEEN BURRELL…WAS ESTIMATED AT 4-THOUSAND DOLLARS.   A FIRE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAYS THE CAUSE APPEARS TO’VE BEEN ELECTRICAL.
