Obituaries Saturday January 5th
Jake Davis, 65, of Burlington, died at 5:30 PM Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 6, 1947, in Ottumwa, IA, he was the son of Jakie Birdie and Phyllis Cassatt Davis. On October 9, 1982, he married Barbara Beeding Leffel in Milton, IA.
Jake was a plumber.
He attended and was clerk of Church of God for a few years and also a member of Media Church of Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was an auctioneer for Fort Madison Auction House and established the FTA Speedway in Donnellson. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, shooting pool, watching football, especially ‘da Bears, and watching Dale Earnhart Jr. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; four sons, Bradley Jackson of Mount Pleasant, Chad (Amanda) Davis of Donnellson, Jack Leffel of Oakville, and Jeff Davis of Memphis, MO; three daughters, Susan Leffel and Chrystal Hartman both of Burlington, and Sherri Davis of Bible Grove, MO; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon (late Bill) Mott of Waterloo, IA, and Shirley (late Robert) Wright of Pulaski, IA; one brother-in-law, Tom (Kay) Beeding of Burlington, IA; his best friend and brother, Randy (Chi) VanNiewaal; sister-in-law, Linda Simbro of Council Bluffs; aunt, Norma Sarten of Council Bluffs, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law.
Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 PM Monday, January 7, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Davis will be 1:30 PM Monday, January 7, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Minister Brenda Wambold officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for funeral expenses.
