Josiah Maurice Roberts, stillborn infant, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He is survived by his parents, Michele Dawn Serczyk and Tarrance M. Roberts; one brother, Tyquan Martell Jordan of Chicago, IL; maternal grandparents, Ronald & Antoinette Serczyk of Burlington, IA; maternal grandparents, Ruth & Javier Guajardo of Burlington, IA; maternal grandmother, Betty Mays of West Burlington, IA; paternal grandmother, Katherine Roberts of Chicago, IL; paternal grandfather, George Jones of Chicago, IL; several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, two brothers, James Searcy & JeDadia Serczyk and great-grandparents.
Graveside committal services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. David Selman will officiate. No formal visitation is planned. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
Clement George Bresch, 95, of Burlington, died at Great River Klein Center on Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013.
Born on December 23, 1917 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Alexander August and Theresia Cecelia Thomas Bresch. He married Edyth Viola Schmeiser on May 4, 1958 in Burlington, Iowa. She died on July 2, 2007.
Clement served in the U.S. Army, 454 th Engineering in World War II as a Tech 4. He worked at Chittenden & Eastman in maintenance, Murray Iron, Schwartz Auto Electric and Wagner Electric & Elevator Co. He also attended Curry Flying School in 1947 thru 48 and became a commercial pilot, flight instructor and aircraft engine mechanic. He was a member of the elevator construction union and life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed collecting firearms and was an avid hunter. He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edyth; his parents; two sisters, Helen Morgan and Charlotte Bresch; three brothers, Arlios, Edward and Thomas Bresch.
The Funeral Mass for Clement George Bresch will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. Celebrant will be Fr. Bruce DeRammelaere. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established for St. John & Paul Catholic Church. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
David Lee Shelton Jr., 48 of Chicago, Illinois, died at his home on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
Born on July 27, 1964 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of David Lee and Raye Ann McHaskell Shelton Sr. He married Amanda O’Hara on December 27, 2002 at St. Mary of the Lake Church, Chicago, Illinois.
David attended Loyola University from August 2008 to December 2009 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi. He worked as a technician at Anderson Pet Solutions and also did some modeling. He worked on the campaign of Freeman Bosley Jr in St Louis in 1992 and President William Clinton in 1991. He was an avid golfer and would play until the chilling frost kept him off the course. He also enjoyed sky diving. He was a movie & television buff and loved getting dressed up to meet friends for dinner and conversation. He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his mother, Raye Bramlett of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Novella Shelton of Burlington, Iowa and Kellie (Michael) Greene of Los Angeles, California; one brother, Jonathan Bramlett of Iowa City, Iowa; and paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Shelton of St. Louis, Missouri; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Shelton Sr.; paternal grandmother, Novella McHaskell; maternal grandfather, Louis McHaskell; and paternal grandfather, Sedathon Shelton.
Memorial services for David Lee Shelton Jr. will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Lawrence Manson and Rev. James Salter will officiate. No formal visitation is planned. Cremation has been accorded.

Porteous “Joy” Genevieve Laue, 89, of Burlington, died at Great River Hospice House on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
Born on September 27, 1923 in Livonia, Missouri, she was the daughter of Floyd and Velma Wright Wheeler. She married Leo R. Laue on August 6, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa.
Porteous loved her family especially her grandsons. She enjoyed caring for the children at the Jennie Coulter Day Nursery and taking trips with her husband to Hawaii, Florida, Nashville and Branson, MO. Her mind and memory were sharp and keen right up until the end. She liked nurturing her family, and she enjoyed country music. Porteous enjoyed the Elvis impersonator when he came to the nursing home. When she worked at the Iowa Soap Company, she got her nickname “Joy” because she was such a happy person.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; one son, Steve (Marie) Laue of Normal, IL; two grandsons, Tom Laue of Urbana, IL and David Laue of Normal, IL; two brothers, Huey Wheeler of Fairfield, IA and Ron Wheeler of Burlington, IA; four sisters, Wanda Houston of Burlington, IA, Laura (Charles) Marshall of Stronghurst, IL, Donna Krieger of Burlington, IA, Sue Ives of Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Darwin, Myron, Charles, Gene and Jack; three sisters, Laviece Jackson, Mary Wheeler, and Gloria Gates.
Funeral services for Porteous “Joy” Genevieve Laue will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Pastor Deb Kinney will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.
The family will receive friends in Prugh’s Chapel on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call on Sunday from 11:00 until 5:00 in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established for Danville Care Center. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
