Gregory Edward Mueller, 87 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 11:42 amSunday January 27, 2013 at the West PointCareCenter, West Point, Iowa. He was born May 24, 1925 in St. Paul, Iowa, a son of William H. and Margaret (Dingman) Mueller. On April 17, 1952, he married Marian Rita Denning in Houghton, Iowa.
He moved to Ft.Madison in 1987 from the St. Paul, Ia. area where he lived and farmed for many years. He worked as a security guard at Sheaffer Pen Co., with 25 years service. He also worked at Pinkerton, Hy-Vee Foods, DuPont, Enterprise Rental and he washed and waxed cars, cut lawns and made envelopes. He was a very avid bowler, walker, jogger and bike rider. For years, he rode his bike 12 miles a day and biked the trails through Iowa. He enjoyed writing to pen pals, playing cards, traveling and volunteering at P.A.W. Animal Shelter and the VisitorCenter. He had a lot of interest in antique cars and he was a blood donor. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife Marian R. Mueller, of West Point, Iowa; one son, Carl William Mueller of Muscatine, Iowa; two daughters, Sandy (husband Darrell) Orr, of Lisbon Falls, Maine and Judy (husband Doug) Thorpe of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Celestine Roberts, of rural Fort Madison, Iowa; four granddaughters, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Leander and three sisters: Margaret Kempker, Hilda Sickles and Marietta Kruse.

Robert Victor “Bob” Davis, 71, of Burlington, died at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Born on March 1, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Melvin Oscar and Florence C. Stoecker Davis. He married Linda Suter in 1963 in Burlington, Iowa. They later divorced. He married Dorothy Akers on June 20, 2003 in Kissimmee, Florida.
Bob worked at J.I. Case Co. He was a lifetime member of First United Church of Christ and was involved in the New Step program at the YMCA. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and rooting for his favorite driver, Mark Martin. He loved airplanes, hot rod cars and music. When he was younger he played guitar in a band called “The Original Deejays”. He enjoyed all types of music and when the river boats rolled into town he would always go to the riverfront to listen and record the Calliope music, even as they departed.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Susan Sharp of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Rob Davis of Wapello, Iowa and Jeff Davis of Burlington, Iowa; one step-son, Mark (Debra) Haynes, of Burlington, Iowa; two granddaughters, Abbie Davis of O’Fallon, Missouri and Maddie Sharp at home; two step-grandsons, Taylor Haynes of Burlington, Iowa and Shane Haynes at home; one step-great-grandson, Tucker Haynes at home; three sisters, Betty (Jack) Forbes of Rolla, Missouri, Melissa Fraise and Debbie Davis, both of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Bill Davis of Orlando, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
Memorial services for Robert V. “Bob” Davis will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Patricia Ann Brockway, 85, of Burlington, died at Burlington Care Center, Burlington, Iowa, on Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013.
Born on February 4, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Raymond P. and Anna Lang Welch. She married Elwood Harrison Brockway on June 28, 1946 at St. Patrick Church, Burlington, Iowa. He died on September 15, 2009.
Patricia was a homemaker. She enjoyed yard work, shopping with her sister, Margaret, going to the city pool in Crapo Park and playing bingo. She was a member of SS. Patrick & Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Sue) Brockway and Tom Brockway, both of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kara, Jennifer, Morgan and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexis and Julia; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Joe, Buck and “Speck”; three sisters, Margaret, Dorie and Frances.
A memorial gathering with the family present to greet friends will be held in Prugh’s Chapel on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. No formal services are planned.

Gena Mae Layer, 49 years, of Burlington, Iowa died at 5:30 pmMonday, January 28, 2013 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, after a long battle with breast and bone cancer. She was born January 25, 1964 at Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Virginia (Congdon) Layer.
She was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked at several factories including the Burlington Basket Factory and Vista Bakery. She also worked at the Pzazz. She enjoyed spending time with her family, making crafts and jewelry, going to yard sales, her cats, and was known for always helping those in need.
She is survived by her mother, Virginia Layer, of Burlington, Iowa; her father, Thomas Layer, of Little Rock, Arkansas; one son, Theron Layer, of Burlington, Iowa; maternal grandmother, Doris Congdon, of Wever, Iowa; aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, paternal grandparents, and one uncle.
Her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 amSaturday, February 2, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, FortMadison. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 amSaturday, February 2, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Pastor Kendal Adams will officiate.
