Ruth E. Barnes, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Anamosa, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.  Inurnment will be held later this Spring in Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa.  Cards may be sent to:  Janet Ireland, 4500 Widgeon Court, Marion, Iowa, 50302.

Kathryn C. Neal, age 88, of Mediapolis, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at her home.  The daughter of Lawrence and Sophie C. Hanson Thomson, she was born on September 24, 1924 in Burlington.  She married Richard I. Neal on November 23, 1945 in Burlington.  He died on July 16, 2007.

 

Kathryn was proud to be a farmwife and homemaker.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in West Burlington.

 

She enjoyed playing cards with the family, doing needle work, taking care of her Christmas Cactuses, and her milk cows.  She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

She is survived by one son, LaVerne Neal of Burlington; three daughters, Lois Wyatt of Dallas City, Illinois, Karen Anderson of Mediapolis, and Marcia Burkey of Mediapolis; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; one brother; two sisters, and a nephew, Dwayne, she helped raise.

 

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

 

The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating.  Burial will follow at the North Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the North Walker Cemetery and Great River Hospice.

 

Larry Bernhart, 67, of Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Burlington, died at his home in Paducah on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

 

Born on June 24, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Herbert William and Helen Louise Lease Bernhart. He married Carolyn Bell on April 18, 1980 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. They later divorced.

 

Larry worked for Wal-Mart Fleet Division, Mid-West Old Threshers and Vega Industries. He enjoyed the outdoors, watering his garden with the hose and pulling weeds. . He also enjoyed eating Kentucky Fried Chicken and watching the Mississippi River. He liked to fish and would always balk at loaning out his fishing poles. He was close to his mother and would do anything she asked of him. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Connie Kristine Nisus of Raritan, Illinois, Julie Ann Bernhart-Schmeiser of Paducah, Kentucky and Becky Jo-Lynn Bernhart of Burlington, Iowa; three sons, Lanny Allen Bernhart of Burlington, Iowa, Staff Sergeant Jerry Lyle Griffis of El Paso, Texas and Jason Lee Griffis of Gillette, Wyoming; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Larry Bernhart will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Mike Orthel will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established for Disabled American Veterans. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
