Obituaries Thursday February 7th
Mrs. Mary A. Gallahue, 85, of LaHarpe, IL passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 8:00 AM at her home.
She was born October 22, 1927 near Dallas City, IL, the daughter of Lloyd S. And Bertha Foresman Scanlan. On January 17, 1945 she married Albert Russell. They later divorced. On February 5, 1966 she married E. Don Gallahue in Terre Haute, IL. He preceded her in death on August 20, 2007.
She received her education in the DallasCity schools and graduated from BurlingtonBeautySchool in 1957, where she received valedictorian honors. She practiced her profession of Cosmetology for 50 years, loving her work and her relationship with many clients.
Mary enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and most of all, time with her family. She and Don spent over 40 years wintering in Arizona. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her high school girlfriends from 1945 to the present, by corresponding through “round robin letters”. She was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Larry) Mynatt of LaHarpe, one son, Dale (Dixie) Russell of Magnolia, TX, one step-daughter, Donna (Don) Huckabey of Macomb, IL, four grandchildren, Kris (Duane) Prewitt of Springfield, MO, Brian (Lynne) Mynatt of Biggsville, IL, Shane (Beverly) Russell of Phoenix, AZ and Sabrina (Blair) Watkins of Ft. Worth, TX, one step-granddaughter, Debbie (Ron) Plate of Industry, IL, eleven great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald (Dyna) Scanlan of Dallas City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, one sister, Clara Gerhardt and one step-great-grandson, Ross Plate.
Services will be held at 10:30 AMSaturday, February 9, 2013 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Nate McCarter officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpeCemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the MDH Hospice or the LaHarpe Christian Church.
