Obituaries Friday February 15th

Whitney A. Duke George, 60, of Burlington, died at 1:05 pm Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

Bonnie J. Rohrer, 89, of Burlington, died at 11:20 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.

 

Born March 23, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph C. and Elizabeth “Bess” Agnew Lake. On April 5, 1943, she married D. Russel Rohrer in Burlington.  He died August 28, 2004.

 

Bonnie worked as a teller for Burlington Bank & Trust for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

 

She attended Burlington High School graduating in 1941.

 

She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, the former St. Francis Care Center Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and U.S.S. Philadelphia Association.

 

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Sue Parrish of Burlington; one grandson, Ryan Russel Parrish of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, February 17, 2013, at  Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Rohrer will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Thielen community room following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established for SS. John and Paul Catholic Church.
