Indian Hills-SCC Brawl Suspensions Handed Down

THE REVIEW OF SATURDAY’S BRAWL THAT TOOK PLACE SECONDS AFTER THE SCC-INDIAN HILLS MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME HAS BEEN COMPLETED…

REGION 11 COMMISSIONER THOM McDONALD INFORMED US THIS AFTERNOON THAT 10 SUSPENSIONS HAVE BEEN HANDED DOWN IN THE WAKE OF SATURDAY NIGHT’S POST-GAME MELEE AT LOREN WALKER ARENA.

FIVE INDIAN HILLS PLAYERS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED, WITH FOUR RECEIVING TWO GAMES ON THE BENCH. THE FIFTH PLAYER, RONALD ROSS, IS OUT FOR THREE GAMES. HE WAS ARRESTED SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER ALLEGEDLY PUNCHING BILLY CARROLL – THE SON OF SCC HEAD COACH TERRY CARROLL – IN THE MOUTH DURING THE FIGHT. INDIAN HILLS HEAD COACH BARRET PEERY WAS ALSO SUSPENDED ONE GAME.

FOUR SCC PLAYERS… DANTE JACKSON, MARLON CORT, TYREE OROSCO AND DEBONAIR EDWARDS… ARE SUSPENDED FOR TWO GAMES. NO SCC COACHES WERE SUSPENDED. THE BLACKHAWKS ARE SCHEDULED TO PLAY WEDNESDAY AT MINERAL AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

McDONALD SAYS BOTH SCHOOLS ASSISTED WITH THE INVESTIGATION, AND HE ALSO THANKED THE N-J-C-A-A FOR ITS HELP. HE SAYS THE REVIEW OF THE BRAWL IS NOW COMPLETE.

    Did anyone give any indication as to why IHCC’s head coach was suspended and not anyone from SCC? Especially Lorenzo Watkins?
    The whole thing is too bad…it was an epic game…too bad it was marred by the brawl afterwards.

      Why should the SCC coaches be suspended?IHCC coach was suspended for acting a fool all game on the sidelines. Received one technical and could have been tossed for being at half court and on the floor all night.

        The suspensions come from the brawl after the game…not anything from during the game…also…Watkins spent plenty of time outside the coaches box as well and he is the asistant last I checked…and at one point was yelling at our coach and players on the bench during the game…
        I hope no one tries to pretend this was one sided in any way…

        It was a terribel end to a great game..
        Just a side note unless Caroll’s son is on staff, he should not have been in the brawl…

    From what I could see Lorenzo Watkins was doing everything he could to keep players separated.

    Unfortunately for SCC only one game remains and the 2nd game of the suspension will be in the conference tournament.

    Indian Hills had 3 games remaining after Saturday.

    Hard to believe a guy who punches a fan and gets hauled off by the police only gets one more game suspension than the other players.

      IHCC has 2 games left in the regular season including a conference mathc up with Marhsalltown Saturday. Also, why was a fan out there in the brawl? I was there and miraculously, didn’t have to be a part of it…
      Too bad it had to end up like that…
      Seemed to be a huge lack of security after the game as well.

        You are right on about lack of security.

        My best “guess” is that Billy Carroll went on the floor to help protect his dad. I would do the same. But of course, we do not know the reason, I’m just speculating.

        And yes, there is video of most of the brawl. Including the IH team trying to get back into the gym and running over the elderly woman.

          Appreciate someone actually being able to have an honest discussion about it without getting all dramatic defending their team…both teams acted horribly after the game…
          Also, I have heard from several people that the locker room was locked…still does not excuse the return but does show a total lack of preparedness by SCC staff…
          Great game but almost ruined by the post game drama…
          Glad to see they are reviewing their events policy or procedures.
          It really is luck the melee wasn’t much worse in all honesty…

    Watkins yelled at Peery because he was on the damn court all game and one of the SCC players ran into him. SCC got screwed by the ICCAC and Thom McDonald, who is protecting Indian Hills.

    Indian Hills will be a full strength with the Regional Tournament starts. SCC will not, they will only have six players for their Regional Tournament game at Iowa Western. The suspensions should have been for the rest of the regular season.

    Ronald Ross punches Terry Carroll’s son, gets arrested, yet only gets three game suspension? It sends the wrong message. IH will do anything to win. Indian Hills players ran over an old lady trying to get back in the gym after they had been moved out of the gym. SCC players were simply defending themselves.

    What started it? Hogue spit in Jackson’s face and then next thing you know Armadi is putting Jackson in a head lock. All hell breaks loose after this.

    IH does all the damage – assaults a fan and runs over an 80-year old woman, yet are only suspended for two MEANINGLESS regular season games.

    SCC is punished by having to sit players for the tournament, only part of the season that matters.

    IH hasn’t won a national title since Terry Carroll was there and won’t!

      And you know all this info how? And you know for sure it was an IHCC player that knocked the lady down?
      Still no one addresses the fact that Terry’s son should not have even been out there in the brawl…as for you incessant complaints about Peery being on the court, Terry and Watkins were both on the court as well…
      I am not defending any of the players from either team. Any one involved is at fault.
      Funny you don’t mention the 4 stitches that Peery had to get…

      Where was security at? Too bad the coaches had to break up the fight and the coaches son instead of security guards…

        There is video at SCC of the Indian Hills players running down the hallway outside their locker room. They are running towards the front doors of the gym to get back in. In the process, they run over the 80-year old lady who had to be taken to the hospital. It’s all on the SCC security cameras.

        Peery did get stitches. What caused this? His own player, #24, elbowed him or hit him with a shoulder as he was trying to get back in the fight. Peery couldn’t restrain his own player and was injured by his player.

        No one from SCC threw a punch. Yet they are getting punished worse than IH.

          #1 The worse part of the melee was Terry’s son…is he on staff with SCC? IF not, then he should not have been out there.

          #2 Where was security? Little late to show up after its over.

          #3 How do you know all this, are you on staff?

          #4 SCC was right by the entrance to their locker room yet 0 of them went there instead they are all facing the IHCC players and even at the end of the video one of their players falls down trying to get back out as well.
          I have admitted that the suspensions are deserved all the way around. You on the other hand want to pretend that SCC is a saintly squad…I guess you forgot about last year?
          The main point is the reporting being fair and accurate. Still no mention of Peery getting stitches and the fact that SCC started it as sore losers. Even someone who was there cheering for SCC admits that.

    Indian Hills got the raw end of this deal.

    I don’t know why anyone would say they started the fight as they had just won the ballgame that SCC pissed away?

      We have all seen it many times….not saying I would be any better … but for anyone to claim it wasn’t a sore loser syndrome that started the melee is lying or hiding their eyes from the truth..

    Who punched a fan? Who ran over the old lady? Who caused the damage? INDIAN HILLS. Look up Jelan Kendrick #22′s background and you will see the definition of thug. Why wouldn’t Indian Hills leave the court? Why did they storm down the locker room hallway trying to get back in the gym?

    A bunch of average SCC freshman players taking the No. 3 team in the country with all sophomores and these all-star Division I players to double overtime is what frustrated Indian Hills. Armadi, and Iowa State recruit who scored only 1 point! And didn’t play all game – throws #4 in the head lock from behind, inciting the brawl. That’s frustration.

    Terry is winning with less – all freshman and one star in #23. He out coached Peery all night until the talent/size/athleticism of IH finally wore out SCC. IH better pray they beat Marshalltown and pray that SCC doesn’t somehow win at Iowa Western. SCC will come in and win at IH in the regional tournament – when it matters, just like they did in the past win Kidder had more talent.

      The IHCC players were returning to the gym because someone had locked their locker room so they could not get in. They were just trying to get in their locker room. Indian Hills did leave the court. That was shown on the video. However, on the video, you can clearly see at least 2 SCC people still trying to fight their way through after Hills had left the court.

      Wow what a silly statement…especially from someone who knows what happened to SCC last year…did you play IHCC last year?
      SCC had a great 1st half and a horrible second half….in the first half just about everything SCC threw up went in and IHCC had the opposite luck…just about everything we threw up would not fall in.
      Can’t understand why you think a team that just totally melted down and blew a 28 point second half lead would not be one bit frustrated.
      Good luck at Iowa Western….did you beat them yet this year?
      Funny you don’t comment on the fact that the locker room door was locked…
      How does one out coach the other team while giving up a 28 point lead? Hall of fame here we come!

    Barrett Peery’s cut on his forehead were the result of his own player bumping him with a shoulder and elbow. PEERY’S OWN INDIAN HILLS PLAYER CAUSED HIS STICHES.

    The opposing coaches are given the key. One of the Indian Hill’s coaches had the key to their locker room. Why they did not lock it? I don’t know.

    Terry’s son is not on staff. Should not have come onto the court. Security was there but what were they going to do? Should have been police at every corner of the gym all game. There will be next year I’m guessing.

    Why would IH players not just wait in the hallway for their coach to unlock it. Why would they run back into the gym? Makes no sense. They trampled an 80-year old lady by sprinting around the corner.

    I hope SCC releases the game film camera of the fight and the security camera of the fight. Then public opinion can make up their own mind and see what actually happened. The Hawk Eye claimed the fight was also in the hallway. Poor reporting.

    IH #24 spit in SCC #4′s face. Then IH #2 puts #4 SCC in head lock. Who started it?

    Nice loss for IH at Moberly by 20. Nice win for SCC at Mineral Area with 6 players.

    Why the IH coaches did not have the key ready to unlock their locker room after the game is something you would need to ask them.

    Let everyone in Burlington know when Indian Hills wins a National Championship. Terry won you two, and Watkins was the assistant on the third one. Haven’t won one since. Maybe you can win one this year? The only reason IH went to Hutch last year is because SCC shut down the season. Only reason.

      How was the second half of the season last year and the post season?
      College president not wanting to leave a student athlete behind after what happened is a lot different than the team that were at SCC last year.

    IHCC coach is in the hospital in IC for bleeding on his brain from the concussion that an SCC fan gave him. Hope you’re happy you arrogant jackhole.

    Oh yeah, SCC is totally blameless. I forgot they have such a marvelous and clean program. That’s why they play 1/2 season last year, and had 3 players the year before arrested with pot in their shoe.

    I don’t understand your logic. IHCC had no reason to start a fight, they just came back and kicked SCC’s ass again. Terry Carroll has a vendetta against Hills because they refused to hire him back and he was mad that they wouldn’t even give him an interview. Once he let the drug arrested players play2 years ago the very next game in the incident when they found pot in their shoes, IHCC said no way do we want your garbage back here. You know it had everything to do with sore loser syndrome.
