NC homeowner shoots, kills alleged intruder, police say
A North Carolina homeowner fatally shot a man suspected of breaking into his home and assaulting him Saturday morning.
The Hickory Daily Record reports thatHickory police responded to a call placed by the homeowner, who said he had shot an intruder during a break-in.
Upon arriving at the residence, police located the homeowner, who was injured during a struggle, according to the report. The alleged intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homeowner, who was treated at an area hospital for his injuries, told police he was protecting himself from an intruder he did not know, the newspaper reported.
Investigators are reportedly working to determine whether the unidentified homeowner was acting in self-defense at the time of the shooting.
