Obituaries Friday March 15th

Charles William ‘Bill’ Samuels, age 77, of rural Muscatine and formerly of Wapello, died Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2013, at the Genesis Medical Center, East in Davenport.  The son of Ray and Alice Hupp Samuels, he was born on January 30, 1936 in Oakville.  He married Laura Thacker on December 31, 1965 in Wapello.

 

Bill graduated from Wapello High School in 1953 and served in the US Army.  He had been a farmhand and had worked at Rath Packing, US Gypsum, HON, GPC, and retired from Heinz.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello and a life member of the Louisa Lodge #19 I.O.O.F.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

Bill is survived by his wife, Laura; a daughter, Sharon Samuels at home; a sister, Doris Samuels-MacEachern of Wapello; and four brothers, Jack & Shirley Samuels of Wapello, Keith Samuels of Wapello, Larry & Dorothy Samuels of Sigourney, and Lester & Mary Samuels of Wapello.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

The funeral ceremony for Bill Samuels will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

 

The family will meet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Muscatine Fire Department Rescue Services.

 

Carol Lynn Tisor, age 69, of Oakville, died Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  She was born as Lucille Jane Mosher, the daughter of Harold and Cora Hanna Mosher, on October 31, 1943 in Hampton, Iowa.  She married Donald Tisor on March 25, 1964 in Oakville.

 

Carol was a homemaker along with assisting her husband with the business aspect of his sawmill operation.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, and crossword puzzles.  She thoroughly enjoyed the family activities especially with the grandchildren.

 

Carol is survived by her husband, Don; three sons, Mark Tisor of Columbus Junction, John Tisor & April Brown of Oakville, and Ray Tisor of Oakville; two daughters, Monica Tisor & Paul Marsden of Mediapolis and Kristal Lynn & Don Yotter of Wapello; an ex-son-in-law, William Freitag of Oakville; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; a brother, Kent; and four sisters, Nancy, Jean, Sally, and Della.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles.

 

The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.  Cremation will follow the visitation.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday at the Oakville Community Building.

Dennis Eugene Oaks, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away on March 13, 2013 at his home. Dennis was born on March 25, 1963 in Monmouth, IL. He is the son of Les Oaks and Bonnie (Fassett) Oaks.

He was raised in Biggsville and graduated from UnionHigh School in 1981. He also attended college at SoutheasternCommunity College in Burlington, IA. Dennis had various jobs over the years including farming and working for several utility companies. He enjoyed time spent farming with his Dad and Grandpa, and was proud of his registered Angus cattle. Dennis enjoyed cooking, vegetable gardening, and being outdoors. He spent a lot of time with his faithful dog, and they shared many adventures together.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Bonnie Oaks of Carman; sister and family,

Brenda, Greg, Nicholas, & Barbara Close of Reynolds; Grandmother, Muriel Oaks of Biggsville; Aunts, Kay Oaks & April (Bill) Dowell of Monmouth; and Uncles,

Earl (Sue) Oaks of Morton & Warren Fassett of Kirkwood.

He was preceeded in death by his father and grandparents. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
