Obituaries Tuesday March 19th

Michael Wayne Rowan, 69, of New London, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House on Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2013.

Born on July 14, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of James J. and Florence E. McCabe Rowan. He married Jody Kimble.

Michael was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He served his country with four years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for 20 years with GTE Telephone Service. He also worked for Bill Sater Blacksmith, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator (bulldozing and crane work).  Michael also owned a fabrication shop. He liked to build, weld and manufacture projects such as the bike trailer for Bike Burlington. He worked in 35 states altogether and had a desire to work in all 50 which coincided with his love to travel.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jody; one daughter, Christina Rowan of Burlington, Iowa; three sons, James Rowan, Justin Rowan and Sean Rowan, all of New London, Iowa; two sisters, Kathleen Peterschmidt of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Patricia Garreau of Linn, Missouri; one brother, Thomas (Sara) Rowan of Danville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry D. Adams, 71, of Burlington, died at 6:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013, at his home.

 

Born December 13, 1941, in Centerville, IA, he was the son of Richard Floyd and Dorothy Mae McCory Jackson. On March 4, 1966, he married Becky L. Klein in Illinois.

 

Larry had worked in sales and marketing for Klein Manufacturing for 37 years and most recently for Applegate Steel and Riverview Designs.

 

He was a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School.  He also attended Burlington Junior College.

 

He was past president of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.  A fanatical Iowa Hawkeyes fan, die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and Indianapolis Colts fan.  He had coached Little League, and AAU Basketball and was an avid golfer having scored a hole in one on number seven at the Burlington Golf Club in 1995.

 

Survivors include his wife, Becky; two daughters, Shawn (Steve) Inghram of Cedar Rapids, IA and Tracy Krekel of Kansas City, MO; one son, Rich (Bernita) Adams of Burlington; and his grandchildren, “The Magnificent Seven”, Kate (Eric), Alex, Mike, Brynn, Nick, Jake, and Haley.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The memorial service for Mr. Adams will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society, and the BHS Class of 1959 Scholarship Fund.
