North Texas man charged with ‘terroristic threat’

Kaufman County authorities say the former justice of the peace has been charged with making a “terroristic threat.”

A Kaufman County Jail spokesperson said Saturday that Eric Williams is in custody and is scheduled to go in front of a judge Saturday morning, where bond will be set.

Federal and local authorities had searched Williams’ home on Friday as part of an investigation into the March 30 slayings of District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia.

Two months earlier, assistant DA Mark Hasse was fatally shot as he was leaving work in Kaufman, about 30 miles southeast of Dallas.

Williams hasn’t been named as a suspect in any of the deaths. He was convicted of theft last year by the DA’s office and lost his position.
