Searchers in Washington are waiting for safer snow condition to recover the body of a man buried in an avalanche about 50 miles east of Seattle.
The snow fall happened Saturday at Granite Mountain near Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades.
The 60-year-old Kent man and two friends were swept more than 1,200 feet down the mountain. The friends were not seriously injured. The search for the missing man was suspended Sunday because of the danger.
The Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center says the avalanche danger in the area Monday is “considerable” above 4,000 feet and “moderate below,” with the danger slightly decreasing Monday night.
A woman snowshoer was killed in another avalanche Saturday near Snoqualmie Pass at Red Mountain. It took 45 minutes to dig her out.
