Ina J. “Jenny” Brown, 87, of Burlington, died at 2:20 PM Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  

Born June 21, 1925, in Wilmington, KS, she was the daughter of James S. and Hattie Mae Patterson Bomar. On May 6, 1945, she married Charles G. Brown in Seattle, Washington.  He died March 4, 1985.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — At least for now, North Korea has shifted its focus away from weeks of warlike rhetoric.  

The North today appointed a new premier who is seen as an economic reformer. The move came after a high-level declaration that nuclear bomb building and a stronger economy are the nation’s top priorities. Meanwhile, the U.S. has announced another conspicuous display of firepower. Part of Detroit Metro airport terminal evacuated

Authorities say they’ve evacuated part of the smaller of two terminals at Detroit Metropolitan Airport as a bomb squad responds to a suspicious item at a security checkpoint. Airport spokesman Mike Conway says the check-in lobby at the airport’s North Terminal in Romulus was shut down about 6:15 a.m. Monday. No injuries are reported. Authorities had evacuated part of a terminal as a bomb squad responds to an “explosive device” found at a security checkpoint, MyFoxDetroit.com reported. Airport spokesman Mike Conway says the check-in lobby at the airport’s North Terminal in Romulus was shut down about 6:15 a.m.

Crowds of people were seen pulling and carrying luggage leaving the North Terminal and heading towards the airport’s Smith Terminal. Conway says the item was in an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint. Sources tell MyFoxDetroit.com the item was discovered in a carry-on bag and is being checked out by two bomb squads. Texas puts prosecutors on high alert after district attorney, wife shot dead inside home

After one of his assistant prosecutors was gunned down in January, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland carried a gun everywhere, even when walking the dog. He was extra careful when answering the door at his home outside of Forney, about 20 miles east of Dallas. And a neighbor said a sheriff’s deputy was stationed outside the home for about a month after the killing. On Saturday, McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were found shot to death in their house. Authorities haven’t said much about their investigation, including whether they have any leads or a theory about why the couple was killed. Continue Reading

New Jersey Powerball winner due in court over child support

The New Jersey man who just won a $338 million Powerball jackpot is now due in court. Pedro Quezada is scheduled to appear Monday afternoon in state Superior Court in Paterson. The 1:30 p.m. hearing stems from a child support warrant issued for the 44-year-old Passaic resident, who authorities say owes about $29,000 in back support. Authorities announced Saturday that the warrant had been stayed until the scheduled court appearance. Quezada claimed a lump-sum payment last week worth $221 million, or about $152 million after taxes. Continue Reading
