| John N. Peterson, 90, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 6:30AMMonday, May 6, 2013 at his home.
John was born on May 7, 1922 in Burlington, IA the son of Nels and Lydia Gardnar Peterson. On April 4, 1969 he married Frances Bunch Stein in DallasCity. Mr. Peterson was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army from 1942 through 1946. He then worked at the IAAP for 26 years and retired as a supervisor in 1983. He was a 64 year member of the Burlington American Legion Post #52. He was on the Hancock County Review Board for several years. He was a salesman for Specialty Advertising from 1982 through the present. John was a member of the First Christian Church of DallasCity where he served as an elder for over 20 years. He refereed many sports including, girls basketball, softball and football. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling and golf. John was an avid Cardinal fan. He is survived by his wife, Frances, 6 daughters, Nancy Brennan of Oregon, Kathy Peterson of Boston, MA, Lana VanHyning of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jana Cunningham of Dallas City, Becky Harman of Iowa City, IA, Lori Kraft of Grand Island, NE, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by 1 son, Tim Peterson and 2 brothers, Glen and Kenneth. Services will be held at 10:00AMThursday, May 9, 2013 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in DallasCity with Rev. Will Fowler officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be held at HarrisCemetery near DallasCity. Friends may call after 3:00PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM.
