Elementary Students Skype with Branstad
The Burlington Blackhawk Elementary 3rd graders got a nice surprise earlier today.
Holly Gebhardt’s class got to participate in a Skype session with Governor Terry Branstad, thanks to Blackhawk Principal Chris Richards…
“The 3rd grade class was studying government, so I was in there one day just walking around, meeting with kids and saw they were doing that. I sent a tweet out to Governor Branstad just saying would you speak with them and he tweeted back that day or night saying he’d be glad to do it.”
The students were told by their teacher not to ask any questions they could easily find the answer to on Google. To meet that challenge, they asked questions like “How many times have you met with the president?” and “What’s it like to govern a state of almost 3-million people?”. The Students also learned about the veto power and what the word “lobbyist” meant.
