Development of Former Flint Hills Manor
Some concerns notwithstanding, the Burlington City Council voted last night to move ahead with an agreement with the Dial Company for development of the former Flint Hills Manor Property near Roosevelt and Agency.
Councilwoman Becky Anderson and Dial Owner Bob Welstead discussed whether the agreement is even a purchase agreement after all…
Anderson: “If you pay $20,000 a year and you don’t have to do anything for two years that appears to me to be an OPTION to purchase”
Welstead: “It’s an option technically because I’m not prepared to write a check for the whole thing at this point. We’ve agreed to do it in phases. I’d like to point out it’s about $600 each trip I come over here and I’ve made about a dozen now so it’s not cheap. Plan are not cheap”
Anderson: “Do you have a projected time that you would begin on this?”
Welstead: “It was about 6 months ago and we’ve been marketing to retail users and different groups. When you’re trying to court a retailer that’s in New Jersey, and they have a broker network through Chicago or Denver or where ever, and you try to get them to focus a few minutes on Iowa to this site in Burlington, it takes time. But I’ll have a lot of money invested, I guarantee you”.
The agreement still have to be approved twice more before it goes into effect.
