Sports Complex Ground Breaking in Ft. Madison
With their hard hats on and golden shovels in hand, the community leaders broke ground today in Fort Madison where the new sports complex will be.
The $4-million project will be located on 48th Street, across from the new middle school. The complex is funded by grants and local donations. Mayor Brad Randolph hopes Fort Madison’s Sports Complex will be just as successful as Burlington’s…
“Our neighbors to the north, they claim that the Rec Plex brings in 100,00 people every year form March through October. Now that’s coaches, players, and families that all need a place to eat, some need a place to stay, many need to fuel their car and buy groceries and supplies while they’re here. Many will be from out of town, their first time in Fort Madison. Now can you imagine what numbers like that would mean for the Fort Madison Sports Complex? I mean talk about opportunity”.
So far, the plans include three baseball and softball diamonds, three soccer and football fields, a concession stand with bathrooms, an open-air pavilion, eight sections of bleachers, playground equipment, and a 400-space parking lot with lights.
Tomorrow is another ground breaking day. This one takes place in Biggsville starting at 2pm at the IDOT Biggsville Maintenance Yard. It’s to symbolize the start of construction for the US-34 Biggsville Bypass.
