BHS Students Get a Little Breathing Room with Cell Phone Policy
Burlington High School students were granted a little lenience with the school’s cell phone policy at last night’s Burlington School Board Meeting.
The policy was a trial for last school year and it allowed students to use their phones at lunch, in between classes, and if they had a grade of “C” or above, they could use their cell phone in the Student Center. Three students from the BHS Leadership Class brought forth data from the past school year to prove that the new policy was working. The PowerPoint slides showed that cell phone incidents per day decreased but nuisance items like headphones increased.
Board President Darvin Kendell was not impressed with the numbers, but after much discussion, the board agreed to extend the current cell phone use policy and reevaluate it after next school year.
