E. IA Towns Again Prepare for Floods
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — New Hartford residents are returning home since rain has missed the area and Beaver Creek is receding, but rain in other locations in eastern Iowa has heightened flood concerns.
Independence is preparing for near-record high levels on the Wapsipinicon River.
Buchanan County officials have asked the state for 10,000 sandbags . Further downstream, Linn County Fair organizers are canceling events at the fairgrounds in Central City. The Wapsipinicon runs east of the fairgrounds and will peak at 27 feet on Friday at Anamosa, just downstream from Central City.
Johnson County officials have asked for a pump as they prepare for rising Iowa and Cedar rivers.
