175-year-old House Catches Fire
The residents and their two granddaughters got out safely, thanks to smoke detectors.
A fire broke out in the walls between the second floor and the attic in the old stone house across from the Burlington Police Station Department this morning. Owner Dennis Ramseyer said he woke up to smoke dectors going off and clouds of smoke.
Burlington and West Burlington Fire Departments responded to the corner of 3rd and Columbia just before 9. Their investigation to find a cause continues. Damage to the 175-year-old house is estimated at $60,000, $40,000 to it’s contents. The Ramseyers are covered by insurance.
