Red Cross Issues Emergency Call for Blood and Platelets
The American Red Cross issued an emergency request for platelet and blood donors of all blood types.
They are encouraging people to roll up their sleeves and give because of the decrease in donations received in June and the first week of July. Nationwide, donations through the Red Cross were down by 10% in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected. The shortfall is similar to what the Red Cross experienced in June 2012.
June can be a challenging month for the Red Cross because there are no school blood drives, people are adjusting to summer schedules, and people leave for vacations.
