Swimming in Lake Geode is Not Recommended
If you plan to do any swimming in the near future, cross Lake Geode off your list of possible swimming holes.
A toxic algae bloom has been reported in the Lake, located in Danville, Iowa. The algae’s toxins can make people and animals very sick. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea if water from the lake is ingested. Other symptoms can include cough, runny eyes and nose, sore throat, and astmha-like symptoms. Skin rashes are also a possibility.
The algae is common in most lakes and feeds on phosphorus from manure, sewage, and fertilizer runoff.
