Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Fairfield
It’s now the third confirmation of the Emerald Ash Borer in Iowa.
The EAB was positively identified in a residential tree in the city of Fairfield, Iowa.
Allamakee County was declared infested in May 2010, Des Moines County last month, and now Jefferson County. The EAB kills all ash species and is considered to be one of the most destructive tree pests ever seen in North America.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the United States Department of Agriculture will be issuing a multi-county quarantine in southeast Iowa in the near future which will restrict movement of hardwood firewood, ash logs, and wood chips from the area.
