Esther Louise Callahan, age 82, of Morning Sun, died Sunday, August 4, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. The daughter of Rev. M. Wylie and Velma Oline Dougherty, she was born June 10, 1931. She married Donald Callahan on May 22, 1948 in Garland, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2007.
Esther attended Morning Sun school and worked at IRC in Burlington, Vicker’s Department Store, and owned and operated Service Master before retiring in 1999. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Morning Sun, serving as the Clerk of Church Sessions for many years. Esther was also a member of the Lioness Club.
Esther is survived by two sons, Adrian ‘Bud’ Callahan of Frisco, Texas, Dennis Callahan of Le Mars, Iowa; three daughters, Teresa Kessell McClure of Muscatine, Melodee Walker of Burlington, and Tamara Nelson of Morning Sun; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Elizabeth Maine of Osceola, Missouri.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one granddaughter.
Cremation has been accorded with no visitation scheduled. The Memorial service for Esther Callahan will be held Monday, August 12, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Ramona Wink officiating. Interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.
Memorial Funds have been established for the benefit of the Lions and Lioness Clubs of Morning Sun and the Great River Hospice House.

Mary Ann Colvin, 74 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 7:50 pmSunday August 4, 2013 at GreatRiverKleinCenter, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born November 16, 1938 at Wever, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Henry Jr. and Avis Elva Pearl (Rickles) Ireland. On November 18, 1962, she married Robert Dee Colvin.
She has been a resident of FortMadison most of her life. She worked at Sheaffer Pen and as a cook for the FortMadisonHealthCenter. She loved doing puzzles, puzzle books and sewing. She was of the Protestant Faith.
She is survived by her two sons: Scott (fiancé Alice) Colvin, of Burlington, Iowa; Jeffrey (wife Barbara) Colvin, of Lowden, Iowa; one daughter, Mona Carr, of Dublin, Georgia; one sister, Laura Stoneburner, of Burlington, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Jim and Harvey.
Her family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pmWednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, FortMadison. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, FortMadison, with Reverend John Simpson. Burial will be held at the ClaypooleCemetery, rural Wever, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, FortMadison. Sarah Sue Cook, 65, of Burlington, died at 8:00 AM, Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born September 23, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, IA, she was the daughter of Emmett Ellsworth and Beulah Mae Seitz Gaylord. On September 23, 1963, she married Donald Cook, they later divorced. She then married Harold Baughman in 1989. They later divorced.
Sarah was a certified nursing assistant at the area long term care facilities.
She attended Mt. Union Schools.
She was member of the Stronghurst Christian Church in Stronghurst. She enjoyed crafts, dollmaking, knitting, crocheting, and especially time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Lawrence) Brown of Stronghurst, Joyce (David) Young of Burlington; three sons, Donald Cook, Jr. and Jerry Cook both of Biggsville, Mickey (Lori) Cook of Nichols, IA, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Gaylord of New London, and LaVerne Gaylord of Camden TN; two sisters, Doris Bock of Lee’s Summit, MO, and, Dorothy Thompson of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, two brothers, one sister and one infant grandson.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.
The memorial service for Mrs. Cook will be 10:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Stronghurst Christian Church with Pastor Steve Minkler officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery, Mt. Union, IA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Klein Center.
