UPDATED: Keokuk Shooting
A man was shot in the neck Saturday night just outside of Keokuk.
26-year-old Andrew Yerhart of Keokuk has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting that took place near the intersection of Valley Road and Johnson Street Road in Lee County.
The victim, 31-year-old Michael Rupp-the Second of Keokuk, was taken to Keokuk Area Hospital and then transferred to the University Hospitals in Iowa City. He had been shot in the neck.
About 4 1/2 hours later after Rupp reported the shooting, Lee County deputies and the state patrol tracked down and arrested Yerhart.
Rupp first called Sheriff Police around 8pm and told them he was returning by boat to the red Wing Access on the Des Moines River near Keokuk and was afraid there were people at the landing who wanted to attack him. When deputies arrived, no one was there.
About a half hour later, Rupp called again saying that Yerhart pulled up to him on an ATV and shot him, as Rupp was driving home. He was able to keep going and was met at his house by Lee County authorities and Jackson Township Fire & Rescue.
