Nina and Pinta Dock in Keokuk
Making their way up the river, the Columbus Ships Pinta and and Nina will be in Keokuk on Wednesday.
The ships will be docked at the Keokuk Yacht Club. They will be open to the public on Thursday for walk-aboard-self-guided-tours. The price is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $6 for students ages 5-16, and children under the age of 4 are free. The ships will be open until Thursday, August 22nd from 9am-6pm.
The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools. It’s considered to be the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.
The Pinta was built in Brazil and is a larger version of the archetypal caravel. Historians consider the caravel the Space shuttle of the fifteenth century.
