Macomb’s Tom Carper Returned to Amtrak Board
WASHINGTON (AP) _ A businessman from western Illinois is back on the board of
directors at Amtrak.
The passenger railroad said this week that Tom Carper from Macomb was nominated
by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve another
Carper was on the board from 2008 until March of this year, when his previous
term expired. That stint included four years as chairman.
In a statement, Carper says he’s looking forward to getting back to work at the
railroad, calling it a “critical component” of the nation’s transportation
Carper is a former mayor of Macomb and a graduate of Western Illinois
He’s also an Army veteran who served in Vietnam.
