SCC Needs Voters to Vote “YES”
If you plan to vote in the upcoming school board election on September 10th, you’ll see a question on your ballot that you haven’t seen for 20 years.
The question asks voters to continue a bonded levy for maintenance, renovations, construction, and more at Southeastern Community College. SCC Board Chairman Dave Walker, says it’s not a new tax, it’s been there all along….
“This is not a new tax. It’s on the tax bill, it has been for the last 40 years. We’re asking for a continuation. There will be no increase in the levy amount, just let us use the money again over the next 20 years to maintain the facilities so we can spend the other dollars on programs, tuition help, and things like that.”
If the levy is not renewed, the money to maintain the buildings and other maintenance work around campus could come from students.
It will take 66% to pass the renewal request.
