Burlington Dog Owners BEWARE
If you’re a dog owner in the Burlington area, you may want to keep a closer watch on your furry friends.
There have been a couple incidents over the past few weeks involving poison, gates being opened, and leashes being cut. Burlington resident Andrea Horton lives on Indian Terrace and has had “mystery treats” left in her yard for the past couple of years but just recently found a container of poison…
“I went outside, and in the area I now tie my dogs up in, there was large container that said rat poison on it from one of our local exterminators. The police came by and took it back to them to see if they could trace it. It ended up not having rat poison in it, but roach poison. They were able to track it back to where it came from but obviously not back to who put it there.”
Others have written their stories on the “Missing Pets in Burlington Iowa” Facebook page to warn other pet owners. Teresa Duke is also from Burlington and said that a couple weeks ago while she was in the garage, she heard her dogs barking at someone from the front yard and found that the leash to one of her dogs had been cut…
“When I went out into the front yard, my little beagle-basset was standing there hooked up, and little Max was standing in the yard with his leash. I thought he might have broken loose. When my husband came home, because I saved all of it, he said that it was not broken, it was a clean cut.”
There have also been concerns voiced on the Facebook page about poison being left at dog parks.
