Obituaries Wednesday September 11th
William “Bill” L. Sanderford, 73, of Burlington, died at 6:57 PM Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born August 18, 1940, in Denver, CO, he was the son of John A. and Leona Virginia Richards Sanderford. He was raised by his mother and his step-father, Harry L. Carter
Bill worked as an electrical engineer and then went into truck driving, most recently driving for Swift out of Kansas City.
He graduated from high school in Abilene, Texas and then went on to graduate from college at ASU.
He was a U.S. Navy & Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He earned several medals including four purple hearts.
He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed rebuilding old cars and trucks.
Survivors include his fiance, Linda Elmore of Burlington; one son, Michael Sanderford of Abilene, TX; one step-son, Adrian of Taiwan; one step-daughter, Shirley Contreras of Portland, OR; grandchildren; many of Linda’s family and friends in the Burlington area; two half-sisters, Gwinda (Donald) Horton of Hawley, TX, and Paulette (Charles) Clinton of Abilene, TX; one half-brother, Harry “Dean” (Cherie) Carter of Abilene, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and step-father.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory. A family gathering will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
