Burlington Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

A 35-year-old Burlington man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, after pleading guilty to a reduced charge during his attempted murder trial.

Jermaine Carr was also ordered by Judge John Linn to make restitution to his two victims and to pay a $1,000 fine.

Police say Carr shot 25-year-old Maurice Brown last October, after an outdoor argument near the corner of 10th and Walnut. The second victim, Vicki Watson, who was standing in her rear doorway when Brown pushed his way in, was hit by a piece of a second bullet, that pierced her door as she locked it.

If he had been convicted of attempted murder instead of aiding & abetting a man identified as “Sean Williams”, Carr could have gone to prison for up to 25 years.
