Another Fatal Tour-Bus Crash; Trailways Donates Vehicle to WBFD for Extrication Training

WE’VE ALL HEARD ABOUT THE NUMEROUS TOUR-AND-CHURCH-BUS ACCIDENTS LATELY…INCLUDING ONE NEAR DANDRIDGE, TENNESSEE YESTERDAY(WED) THAT CLAIMED EIGHT LIVES…AND THE LOCAL TRAILWAYS WANTED TO HELP.

THEY’VE DONATED A USED BUS TO THE WEST BURLINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT AND CHIEF MIKE HEIM SAYS IT’LL BE A GOOD (EXTRICATION) TRAINING TOOL.  WHEN THEY’RE DONE WITH IT, HEIM SAYS THEY’LL SELL THE SCRAP TO HELP PAY FOR SOME NEEDED EQUIPMENT. POLICE CHIEF FRANK NEWBERRY ANNOUNCED AT LAST(WED) NITE’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING THAT TWO OF HIS MEN CONDUCTED THE FIRST “ALICE” EMERGENCY TRAINING SESSION FOR TEACHERS YESTERDAY(WED).

ON OTHER FRONTS, THE COUNCIL GAVE VALLEY DISTRIBUTION A 3-YEAR TAX ABATEMENT FOR AN 18-THOUSAND DOLLAR BUILDING IMPROVEMENT THE COMPANY MADE…AND STEVE RIPPENKROGER WILL BE THE NEW LIASISON BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE BURLINGTON LIBRARY, REPLACING COUNCILMAN DAN WEST, WHO’S NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION.  WEST BURLINGTON MAYOR HANS TROUSIL LAST(WED) NITE PROCLAIMED OCTOBER 23RD THRU THE 31ST, “RED RIBBON WEEK” IN THE CITY….. THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT WILL TRY AGAIN TO STOP A LEAK IN THE SEWER SYSTEM IN THE 200 BLOCK OF LEFFLER STREET…AND THERE’LL BE AN OCTOBER 16TH PUBLIC HEARING IN WEST BURLINGTON ON THE CITY’S DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT WITH…AND TAX INCREMENT PAYMENT TO…THE GREATER BURLINGTON PARTNERSHIP.
