Dead WarrenCo Inmate Identified

THE INMATE WHO DIED AT MONMOUTH’S WARREN COUNTY JAIL OVER THE WEEKEND HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 49-YEAR OLD ROBERT STAUFFER OF LITTLE YORK.

AUTHORITIES SAY HE APPARENTLY COMMITTED SUICIDE BY HANGING HIMSELF, ALTHO THE RESULTS OF AN AUTOPSY PERFORMED YESTERDAY(SUN) ARE PENDING.

WARREN COUNTY SHERIFF MARTIN EDWARDS SAYS STAUFFER HAD BEEN ARRESTED SATURDAY MORNING ON A WARRANT FOR FAILING TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER. AGENTS FROM THE WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS TASK FORCE ALSO EXECUTED A SEARCH WARRENT AT HIS HOME ON 245TH AVENUE AND REPORTED FINDING A NUMBER OF METH-MAKING MATERIALS IN THE GARAGE. STAUFFER WAS AWAITING A BOND HEARING ON THE DRUG CHARGES AND THE WARRANT WHEN HE WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS CELL.

THE INVESTIGATION BY ILLINOIS STATE POLICE AND THE WARREN COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE CONTINUES.
