Four Injured in Weekend Crash

THREE TEENS AND A MIDDLE-AGED MAN WERE INJURED IN A 3-CAR COLLISION OVER THE WEEKEND IN MCDONOUGH COUNTY.

TWO OF THE DRIVERS…17-YEAR OLDS DAVID CALDWELL OF MACOMB AND IAN TAYLOR OF COLCHESTER…ESCAPED INJURY…..BUT DRIVER-3…53-YEAR OLD RON BUNDY OF BURNSIDE…WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO MCDONOUGH DISTRICT HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. THREE JUVENILES IN THE CALDWELL CAR…WHOSE NAMES WERE NOT RELEASED BY ILLINOIS STATE POLICE…WERE ALSO INJURED. TWO OF THEM HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF THE CAR AND WERE AIRLIFTED TO THE HOSPITAL; THE THIRD WAS TAKEN TO MCDONOUGH HOSPITAL, TREATED AND RELEASED.

 

TROOPERS SAY TAYLOR WAS DRIVING WEST ON ILLINOIS-9 AT 750-EAST JUST AFTER 9:40 SATURDAY NITE, WHEN HE SLOWED QUICKLY TO AVOID AN ANIMAL IN THE ROAD. CALDWELL…WHO WAS FOLLOWING TAYLOR…VEERED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A REAR-END COLLISION…AND HIT BUNDY HEAD-ON. AUTHORITIES SAY EVERYONE HAD SEATBELTS ON AND THERE WAS NO ALCOHOL INVOLVED. CALDWELL WAS CITED FOR FAILING TO REDUCE SPEED AND IMPROPER LANE USEAGE.
