Betty A. Hutchcroft, age 89, of Mediapolis, died Tuesday evening, October 8, 2013, at the GreatRiver Hospice House in West Burlington.  The daughter of PearlI. and Ola A. Beck Gabeline, she was born on October 14, 1923 in Yarmouth.  She married Charles ‘Chuck’ Hutchcroft on July 29, 1945 in Mediapolis.

 

Betty graduated from YarmouthHigh School in 1941 and attended BurlingtonJunior College.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed helping on the farm.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the UMW and church circles, American Legion Auxiliary, Sunshine Club, TTT, and King’s Daughters all of Mediapolis.

 

Betty was an excellent cook and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and gardening.  She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of their activities.

 

Her family includes her husband, Chuck; a daughter, Lynn & Bill Carlson of Burlington; two sons, Tom & Maureen Hutchcroft of Keokuk and Tim & Deb Hutchcroft of Mediapolis; four grandchildren, Curt Carlson, Angie & Matt Shriver, Kristin & Lance Eland, and Krystal & Ryan McLain; and nine great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ellen Hutchcroft; and three sisters, Bernice Yohe, Ethel Mary Walker, and Elizabeth as a child.

 

The funeral ceremony for Betty Hutchcroft will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch in Mediapolis with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating.  Burial will follow at the KossuthCemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch and the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
