GE Employees Not Backing Down

General Electric employees and supporters had one message tonight for the company, and that was to “KEEP YOUR PROMISE”.

Three years ago, GE threatened to close down the West Burlington manufacturing plant if workers didn’t agree to nearly $8-million in cuts. Besides that, West Burlington, the state of Iowa, and Des Moines County threw in $2.4-million in tax incentives to keep the plant open for another 3-5 years. It’s been 3 years, and the public is wondering where all the money went. Cherie Mortice is with the Iowa CCI Action Fund….

“GE came to town and made promises to Burlington and to West Burlington. Now it’s time to hold them accountable folks. Where did the money tax payers gave them go? Did the plant use the money to upgrade the plant so it’s more competitive? Where’s the public report? Wheres the accountability? Is it overseas with the rest of their piles of money?

Everyone at tonight’s forum was given a post card and was encouraged to send it with a message to GE, letting the corporation know that they will not back down.
