It’s now the third time within the last few days that a pedestrian has been hit by a vehicle along a highway in our area.
Last night at around 11:30, a caller reported a person walking in the middle of the northbound lanes in the 3400 block of Highway 218. Deputies searched the area but found nobody.
Shortly after midnight, another call to police reported that a vehicle struck a male pedestrian walking near that same location. After investigating, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office revealed that 41-year-old Lesli Deguzman of Keokuk struck 19-year-old Harley Price of Montrose.
Price was wearing a black jacket, shirt, and blue jeans and could not be easily seen in the dark.
He was flown to Iowa City Hospitals with serious injuries. Deguzman was taken to Keokuk Area Hospital.
