GBP Hosts Candidates Forum; 2nd One Tonight in WB

THE ELECTION’S NEXT TUESDAY AND LAST(TUE) NITE THE GREATER BURLINGTON PARTNERSHIP HOSTED ITS TRADITIONAL CANDIDATES FORUM FOR CITY COUNCIL HOPEFULS.

INCUMBENT CHRIS REED SAYS THE ONE THING THAT WOULD IMPROVE CITY GOVERNMENT THE MOST IS COMMUNICATION.   FORMER COUNCILMAN TIM SCOTT ECHOED…IN SOME WAYS…WHAT REED SAID ABOUT COMMUNICATING, AND HE ALSO WANTS THE TRUTH FROM CITY STAFF, SOMETHING HE SAID HE DIDN’T ALWAYS GET UNDER FORMER CITY MANAGER DOUG WORDEN.

NEWCOMER BECKY SHOCKLEY SAYS SHE’D LIKE TO SEE MORE LEADERSHIP FROM DEPARTMENT HEADS, PARTICULARLY AS IT CONCERNS VOLUNTARILY REDUCING SALARIES AND CONTRIBUTING TOWARD HEALTH INSURANCE.  FORMER COUNCILMAN MIKE CAMPBELL LISTED OPEN COMMUNICATION AS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE CITY GOVERNMENT BETTER.

CURRENT MAYOR JIM DAVIDSON RE-ITERATED THAT OPENNESS AND COMMUNICATION ARE KEY TO AN IMPROVED BURLINGTON GOVERNMENT…AND HE LISTED SOME OF WHAT HE’S ALREADY DONE TOWARD THAT END, SUCH AS MOVING CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSIONS OUT OF THE CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE AND INTO THE THIRD-FLOOR COUNCIL CHAMBERS.  COUNCILMAN BOB FLEMING TOLD THE RADIO, TV AND STUDIO AUDIENCE THAT RE-ELECTING HIM WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO IMPROVE CITY GOVERNMENT. THEN, HE GOT SERIOUS, SAYING THE CITY NEEDS TO CONSTANTLY BE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY AND PERFORMANCE.
