Family will receive friends    One hour prior to the time of service at Lunning Chapel
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 16th, at Lunning Chapel
Burial in the Loper Cemetery, Rural Sperry.

 

Jerome “Jerry” Eland, 75, of Burlington, died at 6:29 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born June 9, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Oscar Elbridge and Blanche McCready Eland. On May 5, 1961, he married Pat L. Evans in Spokane, WA.

 

He was a 1956 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

Jerry was an Aircraft Electrician with the rank of Technical Sergeant for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force.  He then worked at Electronic Applications for 22 years. 

 

He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and was a very good electrician.

 

Survivors include his wife, Pat; one son, Timothy Eland of Chillicothe, MO; one daughter, Vikki Eland of Burlington; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy (Judy) Eland of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

 

There will be no visitation or services.

Debbie VanDorin, 59, of Burlington, died at 8:58 AM Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at her residence.

 

Born November 2, 1954, in Davenport, IA, she was the daughter of George L. and Myrna Beelman Reinhard. On May 31, 1975, she married Delmar G. VanDorin in Fort Madison, IA.

 

Debbie was a Registered Nurse for 30 years.  She worked for the Iowa State Penitentiary as a R.N. for eight years.  She also worked for Home Healthcare, Burlington (Nurse in the House) for four years.

 

She was a member of City Church Burlington.  She loved spending time outdoors, cooking, fishing, and camping.  She also loved being with people and spending time with her family.

 

Survivors include her husband, Delmar; her father, George L. Reinhard of Donnellson, IA; one brother, Shawn (Lynn) Reinhard of Des Moines, IA; and three nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother and one brother, Michael.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. VanDorin will be 3:00 PM Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth R. Petersen and Pastor Dave Selmon officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the memorial service.

 

A memorial has been established.

Bernard Edward Rung, 91, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at his home.  He was born on December 9, 1921 in Salem, IA to George & Veronica Pauly Rung.  He was a self employed painter for 45 years.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was a member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Church, VFW and the Knights of Columbus.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.

       Bernard is survived by: 3-daughters: Sally (Tower) Stadler of Quincy, IL, Kathy (Dan Fraise) Hershberger of Donnellson, IA & Julie (Brad) Freesmeier of West Point, IA; 6-sons: Jim (Chris) Rung of Victoria, TX, Marvin (Chris) Rung of Fort Madison, IA, Marty (Twila) Rung of Fort Madison, IA, Steve (Becky) Rung of Fort Madison, IA, Gary Rung of West Point, IA & Alan (Lori) Rung of Fort Madison, IA; 23-grandchildren & 28 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1-grandson, 1-great grandson, 3-brothers & 3-sisters.

       Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a wake service to be held at 6:30 on Friday evening all at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church with Rev. Wanda June Wilson, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Burlington, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

 

Born June 5, 1924, in New London, she was the daughter of Chester Assa and Norma Conor Welch. On March 16, 1950, she married Harold “Lee” Wilson in Nashua, Iowa. He died April 14, 1999.

 

Wanda had worked as a clerk at the New London Post Office from 1943 to 1950 and then worked in food services at James Madison Middle School from 1969 until retiring in 1984.

 

She was 1942 graduate of New London High School.

 

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, NARVRE, and enjoyed going out to eat with the railroad retirees and friends from James Madison.  She also made crafts and loved playing cards.

 

Survivors include one son, Randy (Molly) Wilson of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Chris and Emily of Omaha, and Second Class Petty Officer, Alex C. Wilson, United States Navy, Biloxi, MS; one nephew, Jeff Welch of Overland Park, KS; and special cousin, Velma Davey of New London, IA.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Wilson will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Trevor Davis officiating.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

 

A memorial has been established for Hospice of Siouxland.
